Discussion of Israel's crisis, and ours
–
April 16, 2023
Please join us for a “salon” on the topic of Israel’s crisis, and ours
Sponsored by the Lifelong Learning Committee:
Sunday, April 16, 2:00-4:00
At the home of Karen and Leo Harrington
Following the format of previous K.C. “salon” events, we will gather for a conversation about the ongoing crisis in Israel. Hila Yanai and Sue Garten will facilitate the discussion.
The salon will focus on three areas:
- What exactly is going on in Israel? Hila will set the stage for our discussion by providing a brief overview of the government’s plans for a “judicial overhaul” that will eliminate the checks and balances in Israel's parliamentary system and arguably make Israel more like Hungary, Poland, or Turkey. Oy Gevalt!
- How do these shocking (to most of us) events change our sense of connection to Israel? Can we continue to feel a special bond to the Jewish State?
- How do we think the U.S. government can and should react to these events in Israel? Is it time to reconsider the “special relationship”? Sue will fill us in on what J Street is doing in response to the Israeli government’s turn to the hard right.
RSVP to Hila Yanai, hila1226@gmail.com, so we know how many seats we need for this event.
Please follow the K.C.Covid guidelines for attending in-person events, including testing before event
