Kehilat Chaverim is a cooperative Jewish community of about
80 households in the Greater Hartford, Connecticut area, established in
1978, to find new ways to explore & express Jewish identity. Its purpose is
to meet the cultural, religious, educational, social and life-cycle needs of it
members.   Programming includes a weekly Sunday School, Bar/Bat
Mitzvah program, monthly Shabbat service, adult cultural education,
community festivals and Seders,  and strong social action & community
outreach programs.
Kehilat Chaverim. A Community of Friends...A welcoming cooperative where Judaism is celebrated.
Who we are
Background:  Two major focal points of the group are the shared exploration of Jewish traditions, holidays and culture,
and the creation of a sense of community and extended family for its members, their families and their friends. We
share a commitment to egalitarianism in Judaism, to the creation of warmth and Jewish community, to non-doctrinaire
approaches to Judaism without sacrificing tradition, and to a welcoming atmosphere for families, individuals, mixed
marriages and relationships, and alternative lifestyles.

We have no rabbi or building and the members organize and run all of our own programs.

Membership in Kehilat Chaverim includes an obligation to actively participate in one or more committee.  Committee
involvement is extremely important, both as a way of sharing responsibility for the group's development and as a key to
feeling included and involved.
